Leading Creativity in the Age of AI
A practical guide for creative, marketing, design, and innovation leaders who want to use AI without surrendering human judgment, originality, ethics, or brand trust.
About the Book
Leading Creativity in the Age of AI: Harnessing Hybrid Creativity to Empower Teams and Drive Innovation is written for creative directors, strategists, marketers, designers, founders, and emerging leaders navigating a new reality: AI can accelerate creative work, but human judgment still determines whether that work has meaning, originality, emotional resonance, and strategic value.
Built around the principle of hybrid creativity, the book shows leaders how to integrate AI into creative workflows without weakening the human capabilities that make great work possible. It explores how teams can use AI for exploration, iteration, and efficiency while preserving taste, ethics, collaboration, brand coherence, and final accountability.
This is not a book about replacing creative people with tools. It is a guide to building stronger creative cultures in which technology expands what teams can imagine, test, refine, and deliver.
Readers will learn how to:
- Align AI use with timeless design and communication principles
- Build creative workflows that support exploration without losing direction
- Strengthen collaboration across strategy, design, marketing, and leadership
- Identify and nurture high-value creative talent in AI-enabled teams
- Preserve judgment, critique, mentorship, and accountability as tools evolve
- Lead innovation with clarity, purpose, and ethical discipline
For leaders responsible for creative output, brand trust, and future-ready teams, this book offers a grounded framework for using AI without surrendering the creative eye.
The Big Idea
AI accelerates creative work. Leadership determines its value.
Generative AI can multiply options, accelerate production, and widen the field of possibility. But creative value still depends on judgment.
Taste, context, critique, standards, authorship, emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, and strategic fit remain the work of human leadership.
Possibility
AI expands what teams can explore.
Judgment
Leaders decide what has value.
Meaning
Standards protect the work.
Hybrid creativity is not a compromise between human and machine. It is a leadership discipline.

Inside the Book
A practical structure for leading creative teams through AI-enabled change.
Leading Creativity in the Age of AI is divided into four parts that guide readers through the essential dimensions of hybrid creativity: understanding the creative shift, leading AI-enabled teams, integrating tools responsibly, and preparing for the future of creative leadership. The structure is designed to help leaders move beyond scattered experimentation and toward a more disciplined, human-centered approach to AI, creativity, and innovation.

Ethics, Integration, and Team Development
The Future of Creative Leadership

About the Author
Meet the Founder of HybraCreate and Author of Leading Creativity in the Age of AI.
Matthew Brandon
BFA, MBA, MS, DBA (2026)
Matthew Brandon is a creative strategist, systems thinker, designer, and builder of communication experiences. His work sits at the intersection of creative leadership, technology, storytelling, and organizational change.
Across his career, he has designed and built the kinds of systems that help ideas move: websites, databases, portfolio platforms, marketing campaigns, books, brochures, videos, recruitment tools, and creative workflows. His strength is not only in making things look polished, but in understanding how strategy, structure, audience, technology, and human behavior connect.
Leading Creativity in the Age of AI grows out of that perspective. It reflects a career spent translating complexity into usable systems, leading creative work across disciplines, and asking how tools can serve better judgment rather than replace it.
His recent doctoral research examined generative AI engagement and creative performance in professional design practice, adding an applied research lens to a lifelong practice of building, refining, and communicating ideas.
